Dragons Can Be Beaten

"Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." – G. K. Chesterton

About Me

My full name is Daniel Benjamin Smith. Looking back over my life, I think I may have been destined to write. I always had a strong interest in reading but only wrote a little bit here and there. I did manage to complete a one-act play in high school though it was never performed. Also, my father spent time trying to write a book in his later years though he never got beyond a few chapters.

Then in 1998 while in college, I shared lunch one day with a professor who told me that I might be a writer, but she wasn’t sure. I don’t remember the exact conversation but ever since then I longed to know the answer. I shared this question with a college friend at the time, but he did not think I could be one. Then around 2007 my mere passing interest in Creative Writing blossomed into a full-blown, ravenous hunger. So, perhaps this is in my blood? I aim to find out!

My favorite authors growing up include Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, and J. R. R. Tolkien. I have soft spots for Raymond Chandler and J. K. Rowling now too.

You can find out more about me by visiting the About Me pages on my other sites.

My Web Sites

  • Daniel Smith’s Personal Blog is my personal space where I can post about anything of interest – and often do!
  • Dragons Can Be Beaten, my Writing Web Site, contains writing tips, the occasional book review, and other topics of interest to writers.
  • Problems to Solve, my Teaching Web Site, covers all things related to School, Computers, and Education.
  • Trust Without Reservations, my Science and Religion Web Site, is an outlet for me to explore my faith in Jesus Christ and especially how that relates to modern science. I do not believe there is a contradiction between the two.
