My full name is Daniel Benjamin Smith. Looking back over my life, I think I may have been destined to write. I always had a strong interest in reading but only wrote a little bit here and there. I did manage to complete a one-act play in high school though it was never performed. Also, my father spent time trying to write a book in his later years though he never got beyond a few chapters.
Then in 1998 while in college, I shared lunch one day with a professor who told me that I might be a writer, but she wasn’t sure. I don’t remember the exact conversation but ever since then I longed to know the answer. I shared this question with a college friend at the time, but he did not think I could be one. Then around 2007 my mere passing interest in Creative Writing blossomed into a full-blown, ravenous hunger. So, perhaps this is in my blood? I aim to find out!
My favorite authors growing up include Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, and J. R. R. Tolkien. I have soft spots for Raymond Chandler and J. K. Rowling now too.
